I am a “furniture making” programmer, not a “house building” programmer or a “landscaping” programmer, nor a “telephone company infrastructure designer” programmer. This means that I make small programs and make them really well. My programs are analogous to furniture in that each one is small, particularly functioned, and lovingly hand crafted using best practices, [...]

Unless you are into console programming, you will want to develop an application using a graphical user interface (GUI). The available frameworks are TCL and wxPython. Both of these are cross-platform frameworks however, each functions at quite an abstract level. I don't want to work that hard to develop my GUI. Microsoft offers .HTA (HTML Application) files as a way to implement a GUI that uses standard browser controls. Using Python to script these controls gives you quite a bit of power and poise for a desktop application.
